Cat replacement - Fuel Injection and Air Intake cleaning

Hello Everyone

2004 Matrix XR. 60K miles. Engine light came on with P0420 code. Cat needs replacement and stealership is replacing it under warranty. Got a question. Stealership wants $224 to clean air intake and fuel injection system. Said that both are choked and should be cleaned with the new cat. Sounds reasonable. Do you think I can get it done somewhere else for a better price or this is something that I can do myself?

Thanks much for your advice

Stealership has to eat the $1200-$1400 to replace your cat. so they are trying to swipe some money for their troubles.

If you have the OEM air intake, all they will do, maybe, is replace the air filter.

Fuel Injection cleaning with only 60k mileage? A bottle of fuel system cleaner will remedy that for you.

Just tell the dealership just to replace the cat. converter and maintain the car as usual.

You should use injector cleaner once every 6mos. or year i believe but you don't use it a lot. Invest in a K&N filter if your gonna stick w/ oem and that you can maintaine yourself.

First off the "stealership" is making money replacing parts under warranty they are not paying for your cat Toyota USA is paying for it

secondly cleaning the air intake should mean cleaning the throttle body not replacing the air filter and should be done

and finally xrs22 is right but the dealer and any quality repair shop should have a pressurized injector cleaner, not just something you put in the tank

p.s. be careful with k&n type filters I've seen some that don't filter well( sand was passing through filter)

garbage, get a injector cleaner, and you can get a trd cold air intake for that price. then again trd is kind of expensive too... either way, that's a total rip
