new matrix wanting ideas

I have an 04 xr, and i am lookin to get an intake and exhaust, which is the better way to go for an intake should i get a cold air, or a ram high flow, and is it worth just doing cat back or just wait till i can do headers too, what are the best brands for the matrixs
thank you

For the air intake the best two brands out there are AEM & K&N. For a matrix I would definitely go for the AEM, even though it really comes down to how much money you are willing to spend on it lol... The AEM'S run around the 2 & 3 hundreds... The AEM is basically guaranteed for the whole life of your vehicle, it comes with a complete mounting kit so you can make sure that it is installed properly, and the best part since it would end up being located outside the engine it will definitely increase the power!! Most of my friends prefer going AEM then anything else... and for the whoel cat back I would wait until doing the headers. For the headers DC SPORTS is a very good brand... the headers are ceramic coated which helps em stay cooler and also better performance... try to stick for the 4-1. ahh thats all I got lol

For the 2zz motor: Injen CAI with an AEM DryFlow filter. Headers - port & polish your OEM for best results. Exhaust: custom piping with Borla (discontinued though) or catback Magnaflow exhaust system.

For the 1zz - 03-04 any brand will do (SRI are easier to change filters and same power as CAI) for the 05-08s only go with SRI as any CAI will throw a CEL. Headers - DC Sports, JP headers, or if you can afford them; PPE Engineering. Exhaust - same as the 2zz listed above.

Borla mufflers are still available. Just had one put on about 2 weeks ago with a bigger pipe starting behind the resonater. Still cost less than the Magnaflow cat-backs I see on line. Nice sound, not too loud, goes well with the K&N Typhoon intake.
