Head Gasket Replacement

Hey Guys!!

I recently bought a 07 Matrix XR Sport package, 74,000 KMS I bought it at a local toyota dealer, on thier inspection they revieled the car needs a head gasket as it was leaking engine oil externally between the head and block, it goes in next week.
My question is has anyone had the same issue?

Thanks
Matt

74,000kms with head gasket replacement already? I never heard of it. Did you check it yourself before pay the dealer to fix this?

Head Gasket Replacement

It is covered under warranty, and I do see between the head and the block it is all wet with engine oil, but dosent appear to be leaking from the valve cover gasket, the salesman said this is a common problem.... anyone know if the dealer will try to get me to pay for an oil change or new anti-freeze or is this all part of the head gasket replacement procedure?

Matt

Nope - should all be covered under the warranty. A leaky timing chain tensioner is common on many of Toyota's engines that uses chains. Headgasket is unusual, even more so at this age and mileage. Not something that I would even remotely call "common". I've seen maybe two or three Matrix with a leaking head gasket - all were from previous cases of overheating (warped the head).
