dashboard lighting problems!!!!

Hey guys

About 6 months ago i started to have problems with my dashboard lighting in my 05 matrix. At first, the clock will only work from time to time; either completely on or off. However, sometimes, it lights up but very dim.

2nd problem. the lighting for my HVAC controls is weird too. Up until a week ago, the right side of the controls (heat-cold and fan speed) will not light up unless i give the panel a few tab. However, NOW, the right side works all the time, but the left side (duct selector and fan speed) has completely gone out.

3rd problem, the AC and rear window heat button's lighting also don't work! are there people out there who have the same problem but fixed it? need some help here!

Background: i installed a DVD player this time last year but really have no idea if this is what causing the problems since all these happened within the last 6 months...

THANKS IN ADVANCE

re: dashboard lighting problems!!!!

I am seeing a similar issue ('05 XR).

I pulled off the silver bezel (lift out from bottom) and wiggled the rectangular connector wire harness that plugs in near the clock and the clock & right dial flickered. I removed the connector, sprayed contact cleaner into the connector and check for loose or frayed wires, but saw nothing.

The clock & dial l occasionally work.

I have started to wear a wristwatch...

Let me know if you figure out a solution

That same night i pull apart my silvery plate (one that surrounds my deck) and put out the AC and circulation module. Took that apart too and realize that the light blub for the two buttons has burnt out. I find out by check the resistance with a multimeter; and i get no reading.

The problem now for me is that by taking apart the module assebly, which i should have never done, i have messed up some electrcial connections on the AC button and now i have to push the button upwards in order to get AC working.

Now, im just trying to take apart the rotatary knob panel and gain access to the lighting behind. I was told but my mechanic friend that many car's internal light blub tends to get fried after 5-6 years (which is how long i have my car)....

Will post more when i find more stuff...

My 2005 Matrix's clock fades in and out as well. It started about 5 months ago. Everything else is ok, just the clock.

The car just turned 90,000 miles. Bought it new in Nov. 04.
