Starting comparison between 2005 Matrix and 2010 Corolla

My 2005 Matrix has always seem to take longer to start that what I have normally seen with other cars.

For instance, when starting, it seems that the starter must turn several times before the engine engages.

In comparison, my 2010 Corolla S starts right up after about 3 turns on teh starter. Same with my '93 Corolla.

Is this just the way the 05's starters are?

Thanks, SD

Probably has something to due with the ECM programming for the DBW system they introduced in 2005 Corolla/Matrix vehicles. Both my 2002 Corolla and 2003 Matrix fired up after a few cranks. I believe there was a TSB on reprogramming the ECM to shorten that cranking period.

Thank you for your response. I will research TSB's and see if the 05 Matrix was affected. To my knowledge, I never received one.

Since the car has over 90,000, I doubt Toyota would cover the repair. Maybe my being a repeat customer who uses the dealership for all repairs and maintenance will help.

I don't notice any difference with my 07 Matrix XR, 09 Corolla S & 94 Corolla DX.
