iPod in an 03?

Will an iPod connect through the ciggy lighter on an '03 Trix with the stock radio? I've heard of some people(unknown make/model), that can just plug into the lighter and it will play their music through the radio.. Do you need am aftermarket system?

if you have the stock deck w/ cassette, that's your best bet sound quality-wise. i still use it to this day. i've tried the fm transmitter (yes, it plugs into the cig lighter) and it just sounds like "muffled" like someone put an inch thick of foam padding at all the speakers.
