Trying to change the fuel pump!

For those of you who have been following my other thread, its the fuel pump (so the toyota stealer says) I was going to change it tonight and I cant get the stupid plastic retainer ring off! I got a tool from autozone that I thought would do the trick but its not. I am assuming that you twist it off counter clockwise but I've tried and it wont budge. any thoughts? thanks.

Are you talking about the fuel pump support - the plastic "basket" that fuel pump sits inside of, has tabs around its base? That one, you have to pry off with a screwdriver. Once that is off, the fuel filter/fuel pump assembly slides out, disconnect the pump's electrical connector, disconnect the pump from the filter assembly.

All it is a snap ring that fits in a groove. On the ends it should have little holes for the tool to squeeze them closer to each other so you can get it out of the groove. I have used needle nosed pliers before and got it out.
