2003 Exhaust Repair
A few months back while inspecting the underside of my wife’s 2003 AWD 1ZZ Matrix, I noticed that the exhaust system had become disconnected from one of the rubber bushings suspended from the frame. I made the simple repair and everything was fine until two weeks ago when the exhaust started getting louder.
I got back under there and found that the problem was a gap in the joint between the short pipe coming off the manifold and the next pipe. I tried unsuccessfully to tighten the two bolts but they were too rusty.
I suspect my only option is to cut the bolts off and replace them. With that said:
· Do I have to cut off the two springs also?
· Should new springs be installed?
· Is there suppose to be a gasket between the two pipes?
· Is this repair as easy as I think it is?
· Any helpful hints?
