Outside temperature not showing

I have an 07 Matrix XR. The other day I was driving and my gas light came on. I then drove a little farther and noticed that my outside temperature gauge that displays under my odometer was missing. There were two dashes instead.

It looked kinda like this:

Mileage- 65018
-- (the dashes appear under the Odo reading)

My Maintenance Required light is on, and I plan to change the oil this week, but it's never happened in the past. Each time the Maint light comes on, I still had my temp gauge.

I tried doing a few searches, but I couldn't find anything. Anyone else seen this before? I may try resetting the the Maint light before I change the oil, but I like to do it when I change the oil so I know it's accurate.

Thanks guys...

Check to see if the sensor is disconnected or the wires are damaged. The black sensor is in front of condenser, behind the front bumper when you open the hood. It is attached to a metal support bar.

I finally got around to checking the sensor. The wire was damaged. Not sure how it happened, but I fixed it and my outside temp is now showing again. Thanks alot for the help!
