Gen1 Cruise Control not working - '03 Matrix

My cruise control used to work fine, but now when you turn it on, the dash light will come on (and stay on) as it should, but when I set the cruise speed, it will engage for about 3 seconds, then release. So basically, its turning on, but not engaging properly.

Can't find a fuse for c/c, but doubt that's the problem, since it will indeed switch on.

Any help?

Thanks in advance

Could be the brake switch being actuated (switch being pressed by accident) or too much resistance in the cables running to the cruise control.

When you actuate the cruise control - are you able to bump up the speed by tapping the stalk upwards?
Tried to set it at different speeds?

yeah, tried different speeds.

it's been a while since i've tried, but i think i can adjust the speed after actuating, but i don't have much time before it disengages on its own.

looks like i'll be w/out c/c for about a 12-hour drive each way...booo. done it before though.
