I bought my Axis at the warehouse from the pres of the company, very cool guy. I originally wanted multispoke wheels, even the mesh style, he recommened the Hagans and I was not so sure. I took out a few different models, then the Hagans and they were just so right for the car. I would get the lightest wheels you can afford though. Mine are 19's and 26 lbs each, made a huge difference in handling for the good over the all season 16's. The problem is the weight is a very big performance killer!!!! I am thinking of getting a set of light 17's and the TS-1's or something similar for everyday use and keeping the big wheels for shows only, like I need to buy another set of wheels right now when I am about to spend a fortune on audio and video gear.
Some light and reasonable wheels are the Axis VPD 17x7 at 16 lbs, $240 retail price each but a little skinny, would have to run 215/50/17's or so for the correct diameter.
Another choice is the Konig 17x7.5 Toxins, around 16 lbs and the Subzeros at 16.9 lbs. The tire would be a 225/45/17 and look much better than the fit of the VPD's.
If going with 18's I would try hard to find 8's if you can, there are some good ones but I have not search them out as only want 17's if I do it. I figure to save around 12 lbs per tire and wheel with that size. If you really want 18's then the Konig Toxins are 7.5 and weigh around 18.5 lbs or so, a bit of a guess on that, retail is $329 each.
I never pay retail for anything with the exception of the car, got it on Valentines day, and it was the only way I could get it. They wanted $2k over list, no way in hell I would pay that so had to agree to get a very expensive extended warranty and LoJack, total was $2,400 extra. I then cancelled the warranty and lojack the next day  Who needs a warranty, I am going to void mine in at least 10 ways anyway!!!!
I agree, the RPM's would look cool, how about the price? I am interested myself if they are really that light, not listed on the web site, I will try some dealer sites.
RAAM, The price for the 18x7.5 RPM is $262.50 plus shipping depending on where you live, it is only $30 to KS from CA. I think I will definitely get these. The offset is 40mm, will that work? What is the stock Matrix offset, does anyone know? If you want the number to the place for the Centerline's, let me know. LEs Scwab can also get them but at @ $20 more a wheel.
Be careful with that offset, just went out and looked at my setup, with 19x8" +35 offset, a tight fit already. The stock tire diameter is 25", my 235/35/19's are 25.5 and seem to effect the computer a bit as my gas mileage went down considerably. I do not know it the top of the weels will pull in when dropped, it they do you may be ok. The Centerlines look real nice for the money! Checking them out myself
I don't know if the +40 18x7.5 Centerline RPM's will fit either, with the stock 16's there isn't much room up front to clear the caliper. The only wheel that I have found that I like is OZ Superlegrras 18x8 +35, and weigh @18lbs. I think they might look good, it is frustrating not to be able to find what you want. I like the Axis Hagens, but I don't want 19's.
Yes, the Hagans look great on the car, do on mine They are heavy at 26+ pounds each, why I want some light wheels for daily driving and then keep the 19's for shows.
I agree with RATKO, the Kumho (reminds me of someone I used to see working the street corner where I live a few years ago) is a great value for the money. I had the TS-1's on my Miata and they are incredible! I have 555 Nito's on my Matrix, work well but very noisy, bug me alot too.
I myself shoed my vehicle with 19" RPO 7s by Enkei. They were reasonable for about $1900.00. The tire I used is a 215/35/19 Pirelli 7000s. I lowered the car with springs I purchased from a TRD dealer in NC. The only thing I wish is that the tire ate up more wheel well.
Volks get my vote of the two! I would go with 225/40/18's for tires to get the correct speedo reading and fill the wheel wells better. If I had the option for 18's in my wheels, Axis Hagans, I would have gone that size myself but the 19's work well on the car, just slow it down more than I would want, oh wheel, looks really good and I will have lots of power fairly soon
I do recommend getting the lightest wheels you can find, too bad 17's look to small as some really nice looking and lite ones are available.
