There were only two engine choices for the 2004 Matrix. The base, XR, and XR AWD trim levels have the 1ZZ-FE engine coupled to a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual. The high output Matrix XRS 2ZZ-GE engine, was only available with a 6-speed manual, only the 2003 model year Matrix XRS was the oddball one, as it was available with a 4-speed auto or 6-speed manual.
For the 1ZZ-FE engines, OEM plugs are - NGK IFR5T11 or Denso IK16
For the 2ZZ-GE engines, OEM plugs are - NGK IFR6T11 or Denso IK20
