1zz engine pull - can it be inverted?

I seem to recall somewhere reading online that if I pull the 1zz engine (2004 Toyota Matrix 2WD) and put it on a stand, I cannot invert it or else the valvetrain will get $)@%ed and components will drop out into the cylinder head.

Is there any truth to this? The engine spun 3 rod bearings, and will need it's crank replaced so I'm getting ready to pull it and stick it on an engine stand.

No, it's OK to put it on an engine stand and angle it any way you want to work on it.
