How do you remove the door lock cylinder?

House burglary...set of keys stolen...need to re-key car...save $$$ by taking out lock cylinders myself...'06 Matrix.

How do I do this? I was told by the locksmith that it was fairly easy and that I wouldn't have to remove the door panel. Can anyone tell me how or point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Brad

I've replace a few door lock cylinders due to damage / non-operation - in all the cases, the inner door panel will have to come off to expose the rear portion of the lock cylinder.

Pretty easy to pull the door panels off, first have to grab the screws under the armrests (pry upward), remove door handles (watch the plastic control rod clip, easy to break), and carefully pry at the clips around the door panel. Helps if you pry a door panel and shine a light in the crack, should be able to see where the next clip you need to pop off. Once you get a good number of clips off, it will be much easier to get the panel off. If the panel seems to be "stuck", means that you missed a screw or bolt somewhere.

Once the panel is off, you should be able to get to the control rod on the back of the lock cylinder, and the clip that is holding the cylinder to the car door. Then you can pull the cylinder apart to change the pins inside to re-key it.
