Air condition stopped working

My wifes 2003 Matrix air stopped working and the compressor does not engage. Checked the low pressure line with a gage and it reads 120. Could this just be low refrigerant? Checked fuses and made sure the temperature control cable was working. In the 90's here and the wife is hot.

don't quote me on it but i don't think the low side should be that high in psi. low side is the larger of the two lines. some people confuse the two?

Since the compressor wasn't engaging I believe you will get the same pressure on low and high side of compressor. I am wondering if the refrigerant gets too low will the compressor stop cycling? Usually when it gets low it cycles on and off. Since I don't drive the car I am not sure what was happening before it stopped working. It was the larger hose and the cap had an "L" on it so I am pretty sure it is the low pressure side.

usually when the system is low, it will not cycle and stay disengaged, when over full, will stay engaged. probably and hopefully low. you are correct with equalized psi with not cycleing. only way to know is to evac and weigh what is pulled out and compare it to specs. if you take it somewhere to have it charged, make sure they put some dye i the system to look for leaks later on.

I pulled the 40A fuse under the dash and checked to see if it was blown. Reinstalled it and suddenly the compressor is now engaging and I get 30 psi on the low side. You never what will work but I am glad.
