what is this?

I was replacing the stereo in my 04 Matrix XR and noticed that there is some sort of cable or wire coming from the "dummy" button below the A/C and Recirculate buttons on the dash.

The cable goes from that plug, runs under the stereo, and connects to the heater controls -- right behind the fan speed knob.

That third "button" doesn't actually move so I didn't expect there to be anything behind it. Does anyone know what this does?

I guess this is a stumper.

Does anyone have a working link to a parts manual that I could download?

Lot's of cars are pre-wired for some of the non-standard options. I'm not sure what that extra button is, but if it was for let's say heated seats, you seats would connect to a connector on the floor and all you have to do is to press it. Keeping that extra connection (or getting rid of it) should not affect anything.

Same. Kinda odd actually... I thought heated rear was a pretty standard feature, all my Toyota's have had it.
