Sunroof will not close!

I have a 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS manual 6-speed( 203456 miles). Today when I got in the car I tried to open the sunroof by first opening the interior cover but it got stuck. I pushed the button and opened the sunroof but it got stuck before it fully opened. I still could not open the interior cover all the way. Then I closed the cover all the way and tried closing the sunroof but it got stuck at 80%. I noticed that the sunroof was getting stuck on the interior cover piece that was supposed to be in front of the sunroof ( Its a piece at the end of the cover that gets pushed back with the sunroof when opening it.) How can I fix this? I feel like ripping that thing out... Any suggestions?

That is surprising. I think you mean the interior sliding panel is preventing the moonroof from closing?? It is not supposed to be interfering with how the moonroof closes and opens. If you open the moonroof, the panel also slides with the moonroof.

So by opening the moonroof, did you mean sliding it open and not tilting the moonroof. Right??

No there is this panel that you slide back on the roof. If you dont slide it back before opening the sunroof, the sunroof pushes the panel back with it. I fixed it with a metal yard stick but not before it rained and got everything wet.
