Fog Lights stopped working!

I own a 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS 6-speed. I noticed the other day that both fog lights were not working. I know that both fog lights couldn't have burned out at the same time. How do I fix this? Is there a fuse blown that needs to be replaced? If so were is the fuse in the fuse box? Also this is what my sister did to my matrix. Had to use gasoline to get it off ruined the paint.

Its not the fuse. I replaced the fuse with the spare 15 amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood in the engine bay (even though it looked fine). I also bought new 9006 bulbs even though I kinda new that wasn't the problem, the fog lights still don't work. There is a grey square that is next to the fuse for the fog lights that is also labeled FOG. Is that for the relay? Can it be replaced and is it the problem? Can anyone help me out here Im a total noob!

I'd check to make sure the fog switch is working correctly, if it isn't sending any power to the relay, fogs won't work at all. If the fuse and relay are good - it is now a matter of plain wiring trouble shooting - you basically have to trace the wire back from the switch to the fogs - checking for power, grounds, and any shorts/opens along the way.

When you replaced the fuse and bulbs, did you check them with a multimeter for continuity? Make sure they actually are OK?

As for the paint - gasoline is a big no-no - as you've learned the hard way. Should have used a clay bar first - would have shaved off the paint with no harm to your existing paint. If any member of my family did that to my car .....

Yea this weekend Im gonna try and get it fixed. I had to replace the low beam head light sockets because the left one was shorted out. When I cut it off the wires were exposed and the socket itself was black and melted. My sister ruined my headlights after I had just polished them up with turtle head light lens restorer. The paint was already screwed anyway but still... I need new 0xygen sensors, front bumper ( my girlfriend scraped the hell out of it),fog light housings and tires. It runs great with 207,542 miles on it. I love to fix things on my xrs because it is such a great car.

Cool! Another higher mileage XRS. They'll keep running, as long as you stay on-top of the maintenance.

Also double check the wires that you've cut for the low beam. Wire gauge and how it was spliced are all important, affects the amount of current being drawn. Might be a case of allowing one side or another set of lamps to draw more juice that they are supposed to - assuming the lamp assemblies are equally clear and point correctly - you can see this right away as one side or a set of lights running noticeable brighter.

The fog lights didn't work before I replaced the low beam light sockets. The low beam sockets I replaced them with are the same gauge wire as the old ones. They are made of high temp nylon and I'm running a slightly brighter light. Here is the link http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...adlight+socket .

Sounds to me like an electrical issue.

Pay no attention to the moronic response above although it appears to be a veiled attempt at humor.

We all have to learn. Some things are not obvious on first glance. Glad you solved it.
