Canada 2004 Radio Options (swaps from other Toyotas?)

Hi there! New Canuck here, and I did some net searching for my topic...but found nothing. Seeing as there are a lot of tinkering members on here, maybe someone can help!

My dad has a 2004 Toyota matrix, and he is absolutely obsessed with calling the AC Delco (aka Crappy) radio an utter pile of steaming donkey turds!

I feel the same way about that junk radio.

My question is as follows: Would it be possible, with minimal to no mods, to install a 2005 TOYOTA radio from the 2005 Matrix? (when they went from AC Delco to the Toyota interface unit, the one with the wide LCD front)

Or could I use another Toyota radio? I just don't want to have that ugly GM radio, with that tiny gross red display.

I liked he radio we had in our 2004 camry... so anything like that would be cool!

If someone can give me options/suggestions, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks!

You can do it, I have an 03 Matrix and an 04 Vibe. Both have the shitty GM radio.

Both unfortunately have GM wiring harness behind them. I went to a scrap yard and cut out the radio harnesses out of 2 different Toyotas. One Tacoma, and One Camry.

I then went to Wal-mart and got a radio install harness for putting an aftermarket radio into a GM. You will need to make sure you get a kit that has the antenna adapter as well (GM uses a smaller antenna wire).

Got a wiring diagram and spliced the harnesses together. Now its just plug in.

The brackets form your original radio will mount up to the Toyota radio you use.

I ended up with 2 radios from Echos. But you will be able to use newer Matrix radios as well
