Canada Cracked Windshield - No reason

Well as i'm driving alon with my defrost on and i hear this loud bang. I look around and nothing is even around me. As i drive i look at my windshield and there is a crack from the far right about 4 inches up and then all the way over to the driver side. Was my defrost to hot for the windshield i hope not. But it's like the Crack was caused from the Cold to hot because whne you look there is no chip or anything. Has anyone had problems with there windshields???

And do you think the dealership will cover this on warranty. I won't be happy if have to replace a windshield do to cold to hot temperature change. Yikes!!

Thanks, KM

Well the temp. there is probably colder than what it is around here, California. Just gradually adjust the temp. from cold to warm and that might work. Mine just got hit w/ a rock right under the windshield wiper and it looks like 2 rocks hit it. Not noticable yet but maybe over the climates it can spread. So i'll proabaly fill it to keep it tempered.

Hm.....

I remember this topic being covered before. But I'm not sure if they deleted it or not. It was like at least 6 months ago.

I think either your insurance/dealer will cover it tho. But my brain is really foggy.

More than likely something hit your windshield and started the crack...

this has happened to me too, when i owned my accord. Therefore i have learnt my lesson, when I turn the defrost on I don't set it all the way to hot, and as soon as the frost clears I remove it from that setting.

It only takes a small Chip from a stone ... usually at the top , bottom or side edge of the glass to start it going ....add heat and it accelerates the problem. I have had this happen on a VW Jetta of my own....a Mazda Parts truck Back in the day when I worked at a mazda dealer and seen tons people that have come in stateing the same thing you stated to find a tiny little chip at the end close to the edge of the Glass..............

i have already replaced my windshield once. it started from a rock hitting my windshield and the crack was probably half if not quarter this size of a dime. within a couple of days if had stretched all the way to the opposite side of the windshield.
warrenty didnt cover mine but i would get it fixed before you have to replace your whole windshield.

Cracked Windshield

This just happened to me this morning. Was about 3 miles from home, no one around me, heard this loud "POP" and now have a nice smiley face shaped crack as wide as my defroster about 4 inches up my windshield covering about 1/2 the windshield. No other vehicles around, definately not a rock.

Don't u guys throw cold water on it and hit the wipers as it's defrosting. That's what i do or get the ol' credit card and start scrapin'. But that's only when there's frost on the windshield though.

I had mine snap as I was going into a hard turn fast on a clover leaf. I heard a loud snap and I watched it spread across the entire windshield as I completed the turn.
