After owning a 2007 Matrix, and now a 2009, I've found that there is a difference between the reset procedure for the two. On the older Matrix, with the ODO set to ODO, and not one of the trip meters, hold the button down while turning the key to ON will reset after you watch the little countdown and the odometer blink.
On the newer one, the only major difference is that you need to have the ODO set to Trip A. Still use the key in ON while holding down the ODO button.
