Hello guys,

I'm new to the list and working to get my first car.... so any help with these questions are highly appreciated..

1. a dealer says he'll get me an XRS at invoice plus $500 - so what could be catch here? (the not so obvious ones)

2. I live in Chicago and thinking about getting the XRS in indiana due to availability - what's the downside to this? i.e. wil I have registration problems etc later?

Thanks....

Matrix's are so hot right now, that the $500 surcharge might be to ease the demand.
I know that DVNT has a $250 mandatory surcharge over invoice because they offer etched windows on all their cars. Why dun you ask the salesperson "why the hell are you charging me that much for" and he'll give you the right answer.

when i went to the toyota dealer and asked this question. they said they are Technically not supposed to charge a cent over msrp. but they have every right to charge more for accesories such as pinstripping and heavy duty floormats which can possibly add up to $500.00. i am actually paying $20k even for my matrix xrs 6sp, w/ moonroof and sideairbag cause i showed mine a carsdirect.com price and he said he can give me a little less than that price. im in ny, and the dealer also says every matrix that comes in flies right off.

Wait a minute, am I missing something here? I thought invoice + $500 is a sweet price. Let's see now, that'll be roughly $17953 (from edmunds: base invoice+destination charge+$500, and no options).

Yeah. 4Runner and Camry misunderstood your post. They're thinking about MSRP as opposed to dealer's invoice.

Dealer's invoice is the price the dealership purchased the car from the factory.

I'm wondering myself what the catch is. You won't find any dealers in Canada offering that to any customer because they seem to be selling well without budging from MSRP.

I guess just ask him straight up...what's the catch?

Oops... didnt catch that. you're right.. $500 over invoice is VERY SWEET.. but even paying msrp is a decent price. i put my deposit on saturday for an XRS 6sp, side airbag, moonroof, rear bumper protector, cargo net, 6 disc cd and destination for $us 20k, flat. im so happy. car should be in by september dealer said. Plus on top of that i got $1000.00 back for having my gf by the car since she just graduated from college. basically got it for $19k.
