Gauging interest

Hey there,

I'm in dire need of a money source and I'm thinking of making custom fibreglass speaker boxes for the matrix. So I want to see what kind of interest there is for this type of product. Ill be making one for the left and right side of the hatch area. Im not sure what pricing will be, Im thinking like 50USD, it depends on the cost of materials. I'm not looking to make a killing, just make cost with a little extra left over.

I checked out cardomain to see if anyone has done something similar to what I had in mind and the picture below is pretty well exactly what I was thinking.

So any input would be very much appreciated. Just remember Im not selling anything, just seeing wether or not I should invest money into something like this. I'd probably sell them on ebay if and when the time comes.

Can u still have access to the tailights if the bulbs go out? I've been looking for the same thing except i was gonna mount them up top so i still have room on the bottom. I came across some on ebay for like, except it was for a del sol but the guy can custom make them for your vehicle and the one he had came w/ two speaker ports. $100 or so and w/ speakers, a little extra for the speakers i'm guessin'. I want a good sound so i was gonna get some 8" or 10" will due fine also, i'm tired of the stock sound already . I'de be interested in the set up that u have 'cause it still looks like u got room to spare. I wouldn't care really but i have another baby on the way and need all the room i can get out of this car.

this type of work is more high end for the audio enthusiast. Most people just get the box's if they don't care about room. I thought about doin' the same when my dad and i start on restoring cars. I've started tinting already, i've only did 2 cars my dad '68 mustang and my car. I still need the practice though but i have all the tools to do it. Any side job that i can and make a little $$$ is cool and u learn something as well. Though this would be a good venture since everybody is looking to have diff. and unique set ups.

Just to give you more ideas...

The 05 Matrix comes w/ an optional 7 speaker pkg. that includes an 8" JBL sub mounted in the same area as the sub in your pic but as you can see it covers the entire span of that side. It also relocates the storage/access to taillight door.

pic courtesy of bruce:

The Vibe offers the same thing only it's an 8" Monsoon sub.

pics courtesy of genvibe.com:

If you could pull this off for $50USD (or cheaper, as you said ) and guarantee excellent sound quality from it, I'd be interested.

Where in Ontario are you located?

Oh and check this out. But this is a little more extreme!

like that last pic. in your post mista, the ones on the side is what i want mounted right where the back interior light is. Then just use the same type of headliner to cover it so it blends in.

i think i'll install the amp on the other side of the spare tire door. That way it's hidden, it's all plastic anyway and the wire can just go under the back seat to the spare tire compartment. That must of cost a pretty penny for that red matrix set up.

Heres the terminals Im looking at using, anyone see a problem with these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...741424622&rd=1

Also where do you guys typically lead the wires from? Just so I know where a convenient spot for the terminal will be, and also if Ill need to create an indented path for the wires so they dont stop the box from sitting flush.

Oh and Im probably just going to selling them primed so people can do whatever they want with them. I dont have a proper paint shop so I wouldn't be able to garauntee top quality finish, which isn't good enough for me. Anyone see a problem with this? Its also a way to keep cost down and therefor cheaper to buy.

i'll probably get a qt. of whatever the interior color is or i was gonna plan on painting parts of the dash the same color as the car since i have paint left over. But i don't think indigo will look good in the back unless i can match it with something else.

I am just racking my brain and I cant figure out a way to not block the light access and still look good. Ive still got a few weeks to think something out but if I cant think a way of doing it is that going to be a major turn off if you have to mess around a bit to get to your tail light bulbs? Its not like you really need to get in there much

Thanks for the help guys!

The other option is using a smaller speaker but Id think 12" is most popular?
