About to buy '03 XR. Mistake??? - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I am about to buy an '03 XR. I have been reading alot about the clutch problems. My interpretation is that the problems are with the XRS not the XR. Am I correct, or is buying the '03 XR a mistake? Please help!

My 03 XRS was plagued by a prematurely worn clutch. The clutch 'issue' wasn't just limited to the XRS. A few XR's as well but not as many as XRS'. But to add to that, the plagued XRS' is just a small fraction of the population. There are many more XRS' that don't have this problem.
It seems to be a hit and miss kinda thing.

I am told that there has been no problems with the clutch on this XR yet and it has 31k miles. Is that any kind of indication that it won't have problems?

I think the likelihood of it failing prematurely is slim.
