I just bought a 2003 Matrix XR and am loving it! The only thing that I wish it had is cruise control. Does anybody have any suggestions on where I can get one and how much they might cost to buy and have installed?
there is a seller on ebay that sells them for 190 or so. It is for an xB but it may work on or he may have one for the Trix. It says it won't take more than 2 hours to install. This is his business and it seems like a good product. Check it out.

I am in the same boat with my 2003 XR--and my local Toyota dealer quoted me $400 USD (and 3 hours to do the work) to have one installed. My question (sorry if this sounds stupid) is will the dealer-installed cruise control look and function exactly like an OEM install? If not, what issues/differences should I expect?
Thanks!

I just got delivery on a 2006 but we negotiated at the time of purchase to have cruise installed for $100. We made it seem like a make or break deal and they went with it. (I realize this doesn't help with a 2003 but it is something to think about next time if they are still charging that much for the cruise) The sales guy said usually it is around $450 taxes in to install.
In terms of the OEM install I was under the impression that it is only a dealer installed option but I could very well be in left field on that one.
Another question in a related topic:
Does anyone else find the cruise surges a lot even on the smallest of inclines? What I am finding is that I will start to go up a small hill and all of a sudden the car will drop a gear and rev to 4 or 5 to gain the 1km/hr back. Seems like faulty logic someone in the computer but wondered if something wasn't right.

Some dealers use locals to install CC's on vehicals that don't have them standard but customers wants it installed as an option. And it's more than $100.00. But they do get discounts because of the steady business.

All my vehicals are standard trans so- no surge in excelleration up hills. pretty constant speed up or downhill. but there are different styles/types of CC's. They may vary...I know my Sister's Chevy does it a little in her Yukon.
My 02 Corolla has an aftermarket (bought off ebay, installed myself) cruise control and it takes most hills in overdrive (4-speed auto). My mom's Camry, on the other hand, has cruise from the factory and even the slightest drop in speed will cause it to floor it to catch back up. I think the Toyota factory units are just too sensitive especially when put on an automatic transmission.

I used to have Cruise on my Civic, but I almost, well mostly NEVER used it. I dont have cruise in my Matrix. However I did have a sunroof in the Civic which I dont have in the Matrix, that I miss!!!
Well I guess it is too late for me now. But I can warn new buyers not to get the factory cruise if you are going to be travelling on the highway where a 4-banger is already thinking about kicking down. It still is great for on country roads just watch those hills. And i still use it on the superhighways but I just kick it off when I see a large hill looming.
