Canada Avoiding Theft

My 2005 Matrix is parked in my driveway. How vulnerable is it to theft? How good is the standard anti-theft system? I notice a 2004 parked down the street using the club. Should I be using that or other supplmentarty security system? Any suggestions? I am in Toronto.

I hate to say it to you....but no security system in the world will stop someone if they want it bad enough. Stock system...it's ok.....personally I would upgrade it if you are worried. The club is a joke......easily taken care of if the thief knows what he is doing. Me..I use a viper 795 witht he 2 way remote.....also....when you do park it...park it somewhere well lit and public.....that deters. Also it helps if you don't do anything REAL flashy with the car as well....rims tint....Loud stereo on all of the time is a dead ringer for a theft. Take care and get a rotweiler if you are REALLY worried

I would consider investing in a device called the Autolock.......I have one for my Lexus ES (& I park in an underground garage in a good condo & good area of the city) & it attaches to the brake pedal (strongest part of the car). Very easy to put on & take off (a much easier & useful device than the Club or anything related). You can get them at Walmart, Canadian tire, Partsource (which is owned by Canadian Tire) & the like. Run ya about $60 or there abouts.

But yes there is no such thing as a theft proof car.......no matter how well you protect it, if a 'professional' thief want's your car bad enough.....they will get it! We just hope once they see the device they try another vehicle & leave ours alone. That's part of the reason why we have insurance (but nobody wants to make a claim especially in Ontario lol).

Here is some more info:

In the 3 yrs I've been browsing several Matrix forums, I can't recall anyone having their Matrix stolen. Although, you'll get the occasional break-in thread.
No one seems to want to steal the entire car. Just steal the things inside it.

If you get the Club then all they have to do is hacksaw thru the steering wheel to get it off...Takes about 5 secs to do that so they are a waste of money...All locks are for are to keep honest people honest.
