I'm way out in NE, but I wanted to let you know that I previously had a corolla and just bought a matrix, and I really have enjoyed it so far. I think its really quite the bargain for what it offers. Good luck finding more local help!!

Well you pretty much have 3 choices for the 05's:
- 2WD w/ the 1ZZ-FE engine available in both auto and 5 spd (base/XR model)
- 4WD w/ the 1ZZ-FE engine available in auto only
- 2WD w/ the 2ZZ-GE engine available in 6 spd only

I'm a fan of the XR model over the XRS due to the lower price, better gas mileage, and cheaper gas. The XR 5-speed isn't slow, although it certainly ain't quick. If you want zip, XRS (the 2ZZ-GE engine) is probably worth the extra money. I'd recommend the 2wd over 4wd as well for similar reasons, although where I live, it rarely snows.

Before I got my Trix my first and second choice was a tacoma then a mini cooper. I thought I settled for third place, I was wrong. I have a loaded 03 xr series. The models are quite similar from 03-05 the hp did increase a little over the years. But the hp is not the reason to get a Matrix (although it is quick and sporty for a wagon or "crossover vehicle"). I feel its the versatility that pulls its weight. Load capacity exceeds my expectation, you can fit a twinsize bunkbed all hardware (thats right bunk bed) dismantled of course. the bunkbed that I fit in my trix did not have a second mattress but a 6' slide. I have interior hollywood bike racks that are great for one or two adult moutain bikes. The power outlets are so convenient for my powerbook to play movies for the kids in the back seat on long trips (just fold front seat down and rest powerbook on table) you can set up a mini mac and what ever size screen you like with some creativity of course. I also have a drawtite hitch that is fine with a 2000lb max trailer. Nuff said, too much to list..

Hollywood bike racks inside? I tried last year to do something, but even with the front wheel off, the front was too high to fit inside. I finally got it in at one point, but marked the ehadliner up trying and there'd be no way for 2 bikes. I'm considering a hitch and hitch rack to carry my bikes quick and easy. Can you tell me more about these Hollywood racks?
