Canada car waxing?!

how often do you guys wax your car(s)? which brand do you use or would recommend? what about if you have a brand new car...when is the safest/best time to wax it for the first time? for the brand new owners here, have you started shining your interiors (dashboard) yet? any info regarding same will be highly appreciated...

Wow...lots of questions.

Personally, I'm ASS LAZY about waxing and cleaning my car... but I just got a new one, so i've been trying to buck that trend. Best advice? Read some online websites. Yes, they sell the product, but they also give some good information.

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/ and http://www.properautocare.com/ are two good places to start.

Me? I just bought the Klasse stuff that both sites talk about...it's awesome! Quick and easy to apply.... and the results are pretty good.

Can't really go wrong w/ the more popular brands like Meguiar's or Mother's. Detailing fanatics also swear by Zaino.

As for interior, DO NOT USE ARMOR ALL for the dash or equivalent! Don't expect the dash to shine like most cars do. Our dash has that flat finish look. Just use a micro-fibre towel and water.

I use Carnuba wax on mine, it has a butter like texture for smooth application. It's a good thing my ol' man's a autobody painter and has all that shit so sometimes i use a orbital w/ mild polish for a wet look.

I use armor all and my dash shines nicely.....Is the matrix made of different materials than the Toyota?

Why no circles/swirls when you rub it in? I was taught to do it that way. Any links to a site that would give details to do a wax job properly?

I think the reason some people don't like Armor All is that they believe it brings the lighter plastic components to the surface and causes them to evaporate more quickly, causing the plastic to dry out and crack sooner. However, other studies have found that this is not true. So I don't know.

i wax my car every 2 weeks if im not lazy, once every 2 months when lazy lol. I use meguiar's NXT tech wax. I wax my car in the morning to avoid excessive heat. I personally hate shiny dash, since it will make the dash look cheap. I use meguiar's quick interior detailer- which does not leave a greasy smear and rather gives flat matte finish.

Yeah my dad is part of a Plymouth Prowler owners forum and thats what they all use. Its a bit expensive 150$ canadian, but it comes with a crapload of waxes and cleaning supplies.
Good luck on deciding

Shine is not something to be desired on the dash. The reflection on the windshield is a safety hazard IMO.

Mother's California Gold is good stuff.

When I had my 2002 Camry SE, I washed my car once a month and waxed it every three months. My mom thought I was insane because after I washed the car, I took the wheels off to wash them. The car looked sweet though. I only used Mother's products on that car.

Now I only have time to wash the car once every couple months . Gets dirty right away too due to the dusty air so I wax everytime I wash it also.

Beware... detailing can become an obsession.

Quite honestly, if you are using a pure carnauba wax or sealant with no abrasive cleaners AND a clean foam applicator AND have taken the time to clay and polish the paint to produce a totally clean surface, there is nothing wrong with doing small circles. If you are a fanatic about your own car, I highly recommend getting at least a Porter Cable 7336 or 7424 dual-action polisher (about $100 at Lowe's). You can learn a lot about advanced polishing and waxing techniques by searching the Autopia forums. And, depending what color your car is, different products will give a different look. Basic rule of thumb is, sealants for lighter cars, while carnaubas look great on darker colors. Too many details to go over in this thread, though.

Have fun!
