MATRIX / VIBE : Click and clank noise : this occurs >

on the MATRIX / VIBE w/ 4 speed auto .
CLANK : when >

1.) put into reverse ( since we pull in forwards into driveway )

CLICK : ( seems to be emitting from front passengers side ) ; when >
1.) put into reverse or drive w/ car standing still and foot on brake pedal

2.) during stop and go driving ( acceleration from complete stop )

We test drove PONTIAC VIBE ( automatic ) w/ only 28 miles and clicked during stop and go driving or turn of wheel to the right and was told by their service department was normal ( hard to swallow that ) . Therefore passed on this vehicle . Went to local TOYOTA dealer and test drove our base model MATRIX w/ automatic w/ no clicking . Therefore figured be O.K. and purchased it . Day or so later the clicking and the clank came into existence . Have been to original dealer and other Toyota service center w/ no fix to problem . Due for 3rd trip to local service center next week . Smelling ARBITRATION .

Spoke to service center of PONTIAC dealer and appparently being told this is normal and no fix needed . BALONEY !!! As for TOYOTA they too don't seem all that concerned ( act like " what you expect for under $17'000 ) .

My theory to problem is :

1.) loose , cracked or defective motor mounts or parts

a.) seen where owner of XRS had bad motor mount which was replaced and thus no more clicking . ( post at : www.matrixowners.com or www.matrixvibe.net )

2.) Driveaxle ( bearings , cv joint , etc. )

3.) Loose hubnut ?

4.) Torque Converter ?

So , if you plan to buy either a MATRIX or VIBE w/ auto tranny make sure to roll down windows and do plenty of stop and go driving on quiet back streets / roads and listen for this noise before your purchase . May want to test drive again before signing that contract for extra assurance .

Will keep updates .

Take Care and BEWARE
