Continuing the trend of falling horsepower ratings every year since it's first model year in 2003.

2006 4WD:
118hp @ 6000rpm
115lb.ft. @ 4200rpm

2006 base/XR (2WD):
126hp @ 6000rpm
122ib.ft. @ 4200rpm

2006 XRS:
164hp @ 7600rpm
125lb.ft. @ 4400rpm

Damn that sucks for the '06...what are they changing about the engine that's giving it less horsepower? Any ideas why they're doing that? Fast cars sell better...

Did I hear something about Toyota paying out owners who disputed the HP ratings in the early years of the Matrix? May have something to do with being 'safe' and avoiding any potential lawsuits. Traditionally, Toyota has rated HP on the safe low side but their vehicles always seem very peppy for their rating.

It's got something to do with the new SAE ratings.. there's a discussion on this in the General Discussion forums. LOTS of imports will be suffering from this rating.
