'05 Matrix Sunroof Leaks

Could anyone let me know if they are having issues with their sunroof / moonroof leaking? I was told that it is normal for a little water seepage and that the drains are internal. My headliner is not getting wet but there is a little seapage from the moonroof. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

With my '05 XR sunroof closed, I've seen no evidence of leaking.

What's seapage?

I got my 2005 matrix in the middle of winter and it rained like crazy this past winter and I saw no leakage. It is as tight as a drum and dry. It sounds like the seal around the window has a tear or is bunched up in the corners. If it is working right it should not leak. I called my dealer and he said its not normal, take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

Thanks Lolo Blue. I took it to the dealer once and they gave me some story about the drains being internal cause it is a moonroof. I had a moonroof on my acura integra and it never leaked. I mean the headliner is not wet but i am worried about mildew, etc....

The drain is routed through the body of the car. If it gets clogged, water can back up and overflow. You should be able to pour water in the drain opening and see it pool on the ground. If it backs up, the drain needs to be cleared. The seal is not meant to stop all water entry. Any that gets in should go down the drain rather than back up into the headliner.

Damn that sux, since the car is new. On my gen3 camry I used to get water in my car from the sunroof and I had thought it was the seals but then I found out it was the drain tubes. One of them was disconnected and was also clogged. I would check and see if your tubes aren't clogged.

Great info. Thanks! I mean it is not leaking like crazy just a little drip and it goes into what I think is the "drain pan" and then out through the drain tubes. I just thought that NO water whatsoever should come through the rubber seal but maybe you are right and sometimes a little water gets through...

I will say that I LOVE the matrix. My wife even drove it for the first time today for her commute and said she loved it. We bought a camry at the same time and she now wants to drive MY matrix hahahahaha.
