Question Seat belt warning light

I have just endured quite an ordeal with the install of a custom soundsystem in my 05 XRS.

To spare you the details, I notice now that the red seatbelt warning light beside the clock remains lit all the time. Although I don't remember for sure, I don't think it used to do that before the head unit was re-installed for the hundredth time. The stereo install guy can't find anything wrong with the wiring.

The Airbag on/off lights work normally, as does the frigging alarm that beeps if I don't have my groceries buckled in. The airbag turns off as expected when an underweight passenger sits in the front seat. But the red seatbelt light stays on whether anyone is in the chair, or whether or not a passenger's seatbelt is buckled.

Is the red light always on and I simply haven't noticed it before? If not, what might I do to fix the problem?

Thanks for the help. And don't forget to buckle up your groceries.

NR

Hmmmm...now that you mention it, I think it does stay on all the time. I'll check tomorrow when I get in my 05 XRS and see then let you know.

The seatbelt warning light shouldn't be on if no one is in the passenger seat.

As for the seatbelt beep, just turn it off.

I checked and the seatbelt light does not glow when I'm in the car, buckled up, alone. However, if I am in the car and don't buckle up, it glows as well as the buzzer goes until buckled or 1 minute I think it is.

Well, I need to figure out why it stays on.

I managed to turn off the seatbelt beep after sifting through other posts on the topic. Thank God for that. Thanks to whoever figured out that Odometer trick.

Yes, that odometer trick solves the beeping! Thank you Bazirker, great find! Now it beeps for about 3-4 seconds when you first start the car then never again beeps. The light still flashes on the dash as a reminder, so that's enough for me.
Next on my list is replacing the reverse beep with a flashing LED on the dash. Ahhhh, the thought of moving the car over in the laneway in silence. It used to be so distracting with the 2 beeps going at the same time.

I think you can turn the reverse beep off using the same procedure you use for the seatbelts, except instead of buckling/unbuckling, you shift in and out of reverse. My car doesn't have the reverse beep, so I have no way of verifying this, but give it a shot and let us know what happens.

i looked up the prius reverse beep disable instructions and tried many times with different variations and wasn't able to get it to work on the 6-speed. i finally gave up and cut the wire at the instrument cluster.
