My fellow Matrix owners...

Hello my Matrix brethren. I just got a 2006 Matrix last night, and it is freaking sweet. Here are some specs to look at:

XR FWD
Phantom Gray, Stone Fabric
6 CD Changer/6 Speaker
Sun/Moon roof
ABS/Front and side airbacks
Front/Rear Spoiler

I think those are the important ones. Being a rookie with the Matrix (but not one to Toyotas), what are some things I should be looking during my first 100 days with this car.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and looking foward to discussing how totally sweet a Matrix is.

P.S. I will get some pictures up later

Thanks. "Wagon" huh, is that what it is technically? I don't think it fits into an category, other than being totally sweet.

Thanks! Today I found any excuse I could to get out and drive it. The Matrix is so money and it doesn't even know it.

I don't know. They had some 2005 XRS, but alas, I cannot drive stick so I had to go with XR models. Also, they had to get this one from another dealer becauase oh sixes are just rolling out now.

Yea, I think it's got 17 inchers. Engine is the 1.8 L with 126 horses. I know this might be in another thread, but I have a question about gas milage: my needle shows a little more than a quarter of a tank left, and I've driven 200 miles. According to MPG estimates, I should get well over 320 miles a tank, right? Does the last quarter tank last a while?

The gas light comes on super early, I've driven 70 miles with it on and filled up my 13-something (13.6, I think?) gallon tank with 12 gallons of gas. That little needle will go a good ways down past empty. The gas light seems to be a lot less of a "holy crap!!!" and a lot more of a gentle suggestion that you should get gas eventually.

Thanks, Bazirker. If memory serves, my '95 Camry went way below E and it still had plenty of it. Being this would be my first fill up, I can test it and go from there.

The lower the needle goes, the faster it moves.

On my 2004 XR 2WD (supposedly with a 12.8 gallon tank), I noted the mileage at various points on my very regular commute. I filled up 35 miles AFTER the low fuel light came on (15 miles after the gauge was on E). If we call the point where I filled up "as low as you want to go", doing a little math shows how much gas was left at each gauge reading:

below E: 0.0 gallons left
E: 0.4 gallons
1/16 (low fuel light): 1.0
1/8: 1.6
1/4: 2.6

So at 1/4 of a tank you can go almost 80 miles if you are getting 30 MPG, further if you are getting better fuel economy.
By the way, I added 12.01 gallons to fill it up, so I probably still had some fuel left.
