USA Another CRY for help with DRL/AutoLights

Hello everyone! I just bought a 2005 Ty Matrix XR '4WD' AWD. I have been researching how to dissable the DRL. I have found some that say cut other say disconnect and other say it doesnt matter. Well This is my first Toyota after 15 years of enjoying VW's and have never been somewhat dissapointed.

I downloaded the file at the top of each thread- 2003 Matrix Service Manual. After following and comparing the wiring on both, The 05 and the 03 are not the same. Also by applying ground to the 'e-brake' lights(DRL) come on once gear is selected.

Does anyone out there have the HeadLamp/DRL/AUTO Light wiring schematics for an 05 Matrix? I dont want to start cutting and realize wrong cables have been cut.

Please help as the dealership is less than helpful. I just have a week and I am beggining to consider returning this car back to dealer and settle for not so nice VW Passat. Also, I travel to Mexico City frequently and it is illegal to drive with headlamps on during the day.

Please help me love this car and be proud of it as so many of you have the displayed awsome pictures of some "mean" machines.

AMarquez

^That link applies for 03-04.

He already just said that the 05 does not equal 03-04.

AMarquez, I haven't seen any wiring manuals floating around for the 05's yet.

you can buy access to all the factory manuals, including electrical, at techinfo.toyota.com. $10 for 24 hours, but if you register in the morning your account expires midnight the following day. I did this and saved a dozen or so .pdfs I thought would be useful (and they have been).

I have already done this modification, but used a different method. There is a wire that can be cut behind the instrument cluster that disables both DRL and autolights. I prefer this method because I don't want my car thinking the emergency brake is still on, possibly causing problems with ABS or whatever else. I don't know for a fact that doing it will interfere with ABS, but the other method lets me sleep at night.

Check the how-to section over at matrixowners.com forum for the other method.

Thank you

Thank you very much for your advise, I would like to know what you did so I can compare. Im trying to do it right. By the way that is my worry (cutting Hand brake Wire). I know VW's see the light as a possible problem and with in 10 min. ABS is dissabled.

Again Thank you very much and look forward to see what you did. Also, Im looking at the page you sent me.
