The dealership where I bought my car wants to put a supra twin turbo engine in my matrix..I really dont think it will fit is there anything else that would be worth swapping for? I just dont want to waste alot of time and money in this projectcause I do enjoy driving my matrix...
The dealership where you bought your car must have a pretty good 'garden' growing behind their garage. Dealerships can barely put 2jzs into Supras.... how are they going to put it into a Matrix. They would probably try and stretch it 5 feet and put it in there sidways
Maybe they mean a 3sgte? Cause that could be done.... Caldinas have them..... soooooooooo.... couldn't be that hard. But I still wouldn't trust the dealership.
I think of this a a project..my dad owns a body shop and I have an uncle in Japan that can send me just about anything I want..yeah I guess you could say that I'm spoiled..As for the dealership they said that it will fit....I figured I might as well just try it and see what happens..and if it doesnt fit then at least I'll have a supra to drive too..
you'd have to cut away most of the firewall, and cut all the way down the center and build a new center section just to fit the engine and tranny... then you have to convert to rear wheel drive with a different rear end than you have, and then you have to make a custom driveshaft. not to mention the electrical work that would go into a project like that... try this project with no skills, then you are going to find yourself with 2 cars that will never work again.
What year is your matrix? I've seen the 04's-05's and the room isn't as much as the 03's like i have. I'm not gonna say that the supra engine will fit but look at the supra engine bay and compare it to the matrix. Like ishcoleobo said maybe the 3sgte like in the caldinga since around the same body type, well almost. What can you get from japan, like maybe some '03 Caldina badges?
Also ATR just came out w/ a turbo kit for it and well it didn't fan out so well. But the quest continues to turbo the 2zz matrix other than the 3 that have them custom already. Hell yeah i would love to swap the 3sgte caldina engine into mine but looks like a lot of work to do so...

EXACTLY. If you are going to do that... you may as well just build a completely new chassis and drop the matrix shell on it.... that would be the only logical (if you want to call it that) way of doing this. Replacing a 4cyl motor/transaxle that sits transversly... with a INLINE 6 that sits longitudinally is by far one of the stupidest ideas next to putting a 2jz into an MR2.
You are better off doing a V6 swap.... at least that will fit in the engine bay and sit the right direction. Even Jesse James would laugh at this idea.
i will have a 2jz in a camry someday... dont doubt it... i plan on doing all that work someday, when our shop gets off the ground, i want to do some wild projects...
dunno if anyone covered this yet but the V6 supra block is a straight six. The Motor and trans sits vertically inside the engine bay (North-South as apposed to east west like the matrix and the rest of our toyotas) and needs a ton of room under the hood. There is no one in hell that is going to fit into the matrix engine bay. The only other car that has a set up like this is the Volvo and the mounts are entirely different then a east west block and tranny. It's possible but your talkin thousands and thousands of dollars and a huge trial-and-error margin. Even the solora's that have the 2jz set up are all tubeframed track only cars. EIther someone at the dealer is messing with you or your full of it.

In a camry, this is entirely possible and has been done. But once again, it's been done in solaras that are tube framed track only cars and the cost was huge. I believe road and track covered the guy's that did this to a bunch of solara's. You'd be better off with a SC400 V8 but you'll have a lot of fun trying to locate one.
