Unless you are driving under very severe conditions or using a cheapo oil like Super Tech, it is not necessary to change the oil at 3000 miles. By severe conditions, I don't mean hot Florida weather either. I mean driving in conditions that don't allow the oil to warm up properly like miles of stop and go or engine on and off, for example, if the vehicle was used to make deliveries.
