FlawedLegacy - 42.6 mpg 04-25-2011 Corolla LE 2009 2ZR-FE
100% Highway at 60-65mph for 143.9 miles.
But what has been your best mpg for an entire tank, Greg? I've had shorter segments that I got even better mpg but my best tank ever was 41.7 mpg on 6/25/10.
09 Corolla S 5-speed manual
337.6 miles
8.1 gallons
41.7 mpg average
I followed that tank a few days later on 6/29/10 with a 41.2 mpg average over 448.9 miles. On both of these tanks my computer readout was around 43 mpg average.

to be honest, I never go a "full tank". I usually fill up with 1/4 tank left
Me too but you only went 143 miles so you were at 3/4 of a tank.

99 Camry 2.2 auto, my commuter car. over the last 15 tanks(3-4 months or so) looking at the log book it's at about 36-37mpg. I don't fill the tank until I get into the 600s(miles) on a tank. For good stretches i can keep it over 40mpg but those pesky city sections really bogs it down.
2010 Corolla S auto
244.5 miles
5.92 gals.
41.3 MPG
My best yet.
calculating it over short stretches doesn't tell you the whole story due to many, many factors. Keep a log book and record the gallon added and miles drive each time you fill up and over a good number of tankfuls it should give you the real MPG.
I have to say, I am intrigued by this thread with all of these hypermilers! My running average (last 10 fill-ups) in my 2005 Corolla is 39 MPG but I'm getting embarrassed by all these people with Camry's getting the same!
Tell you what, I'm going to suck it up and not drive like a bat out of hell for one week. Hopefully one of those tanks will break past 40 MPG's.
My last car was a '98 Civic that never was quite right (bought used), but the one I had before that, a '97 Civic LX (a woman totaled it for me...), was a beast. Little non-VTEC 1.6 liter, light car. You could drive around town and still get near or at 40, and on the highway, my record was 43 MPG one time...and mind you, that's going like 75 MPH!!
I always find it amusing when people worry about miles per tank or part of a tank. Where the gauge is means jack. you need 2 things, gallons and miles (but you do have to FILL the tank). My other (loaner) car is a prime example: 94 firebird LT1 6 speed, the tanks shaped like
\__/ but NOT corrected for the shape.
So full is off the gauge, the F mark is really 1/2 tank, 1/2 mark is 1/4 tank, and 1/4 is GET TO THE GAS STATION NOW. on the highway, it'll literally go 100 miles before the gauge moves, 175 before it hits F...and about 300 at 1/2, 350 at 1/4

My last car and my current car are the same way as your firebird, kamesama. On my 2005 Corolla, the first 100 miles takes 1/8 of a tank. Very optimistic considering the car only has about a 450 mile range under normal circumstances!
edit: OK, so I did four days (Tuesday to Friday) of "hypermiling" to the best of my ability, having never done it before, and, well, yeah, it works quite well. This is two tanks, one for Tues/Wed and one for Thu/Fri.
609.7 miles
13.50 gallons 45.2 MPG
Here's what my "running average" Fuelly graph became:
And on that note, I will never do that ever again. The first thing I did after filling up today was jump back in the car, run it up to 5 grand, then stop at the light and turn on the air conditioning. Ahhh...much better.
