You can get 23 MPG on the highway with your truck as long as you keep it at 65mph.
I just finished a 350 mile round trip to western Massachusetts and back and used only 3/4 of a tank of fuel. The Scangauge is properly calibrated and has been almost dead on at every fill up within plus or minus 0.2 gallons. Also...supposedly I have the least fuel efficient model of all the Tacoma's with a Double Cab Long Bed 4x4. If I can do it then you can do it...you just gotta drive it right. I just stuck it in cruise control at 65mph the entire way.

Tracking gas mileage is like watching snails f***.
Speed, my friend. Speed.
Oh I don't track my gas mileage...this is just a thread proving it can be done. I'm sick of all these people saying it's impossible. It's quite possible.

I track mine with my Scangauge II on my trip to the office and back. Instead of using the TODAY meter I use the TRIP meter which resets after 3 minutes of power off. 35 miles to work and 35 miles home over a 1000 foot grade. I get 22 on the way to work and have hit 24 on the way home.. and that's in California stop-n-go commute traffic. Worst I've done is round town with my foot in it at 15mpg.

Nice! I was happy to get 18.1 from Bellingham to Seattle with the cruise set at 75 with my heavy f'in tires. I've got a 500 mile trip this weekend, maybe I can keep my foot off the skinny pedal a bit but I don't think I'll come close to 23 mpg driving over winding mountain roads and a couple mtn passes around 5500'. The SGII is nice for mileage when you've got bigger tires and don't want to do the math.
I get mostly 21mpg... i have gotten 22 once... all this with cheapo ethanol blended gas driving between offices at +/- sea level ~15 miles each way, constant speed, low rpm's (around 1600-1750) and not over 60mph... NO Scangauge in my truck... I do it by the feel of the pedal. ( i have sensitive toes)

Thats awesome! I wish I could do that. I know my problem though...my foot is too heavy. Congrats though At least I know I could do it if my foot lost some weight

When I fill up I divide the miles I traveled by the gals of gas I filled and I get what I average.
Because the SGII can be misleading. If I'm at a stop sign it tell me that I'm getting 0 mpg. if I drive 70 mph and shift to neutral, I think I can get 40 mpg.
So the only real way to tell how your truck is doing fuel wise? Is to actually calculate it over the course of several fill ups.
