'08 Tacoma Fuel MPG?

I have a '08 SR5 4x4 Sport Tacoma Crew Cab Long bed. Only 5000 miles so far but I'm curious if anyone could help me out on something? Up until my first oil change I was getting at worst 19.2 mpg all around per tank. On the interstate about 22.5 mpg. After I got my first oil change my mpg has never been the same? 18.2, 18.0, 17.2 etc. My last tank was 16.9 mpg. Driving habits haven't changed. I have run the 4 wheel drive just a slight bit more...were talking no more than 2 miles. The temps. here in WI have dropped but some of the initial lower mileage tank fulls it was still plenty warm? I spoke with the dealer to see what oil came from factory vs. what they use. They use Mobil 1 oil (sounded as though is was a blend?) and were unsure what came in the vehicle? Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences? I have used the same gas throughout...BP 87 Oct. Curious...any thoughts would be great! Thanks

i have lost 2-3 mpg (down to 26-27ish from 28-29) in my 98 taco 4x4 since the cold hit. it is the winter blend gas, and longer times to warm up the truck. and 4x4 sucks the fuel...

have been gettin 18-20 out of the 09

yep^ Agreed... winter blend gasoline.

keep her under 2000 rpms and easy on the throttle.......and you could slap a piece of cardboad over your grill like the big rigs do. link provided for a source of grill 'winter' covers.

I have an '08 tacoma as well (V6 2WD PreRunner DC SB). sounds kind of familiar... when i first bought my taco i was getting anywhere from 17 to 27mpg. that difference held on for about 7-8K miles for me. currently i have right at 10,500mi. on my truck and am constantly/consistantly getting 24-25mpg. i got the truck back in february (live in louisiana so weather's always changing) and it was somewhat cold/hot. right now it's pretty cold and i filled up this afternoon - showed 23.9. my first ever tank fill-up showd 22mpg. changed to synthetic oil after my second oil change and it showed a 1-1 1/2 mpg improvement.

driving habits - i bought a ScanGuageII the first month i bought the truck and have definitely learned better driving habits / acceleration habits. i never go above 2000 RPM's unless im on the freeway.

as far as the oil that came in the truck goes - as far as i know it was just the standard 5W-30 Toyota Oil with the standard Toyota oil filter. now it's
the highest quality FRAM (i know, im going to toyota hell) oil filter and castrol syn-tec 5W-30 will never change oil brand again!

i hope my rambling helped a tiny bit
