Anyone here use CNG?

I recently read an article about a fella who added a CNG system to his '08 Dodge 1 ton dually with 4-Wheel Drive (not certain about the 4WD) with a 6.7 or 6.8 liter Cummins Diesel…the truck now uses both the CNG and diesel. Before the addition of the CNG, he says he was getting 13.5 mpg on the highway and now he claims to be getting 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway!

I'm wondering if this can be done with a gasoline engine and if so, what kind of mileage could someone get on a smaller and lighter vehicle, such as an '06 4-Runner or an '08 F-150 with 2WD and a V-6 engine?

Just curious if any of you guys have done this yourselves or if you know someone who has. Thanks.

Larry

When our local transit got rid of all its CNG buses in late 2006 it must mean something.

And can you really run a Cummins diesel on both diesel and CNG? If so, Cummins can certainly find a way to use CNG on their ISL bus engine and they don't need a separate CNG version of it... Same with Toyota's 5S gas engine and its CNG spin in years past.

BTW Toronto's hybrid buses sports a Cummins diesel engine very similar to those found in Dodge Rams. Again that must mean something.

Yep the TTC got rid of them for a few reasons. Terrible range, poor reliability(they broke down frequently), fuel tank leaks giving you headaches and they were useless when the compressor broke or was shut down(like the blackout). For a cash strapped system like the TTC, CNG was more expensive and more trouble than it was worth.
