k so this is what i've noticed on my 2009 corolla XRS, 2.4L. i get the same
milage in the city and on the highway. about 530+kms in the city and more or less the same with highway driving. i dont drive hard, even on my road trips, just drive it at about 115 or 120 kms/hr. in the city i barely rev more than 3000rpms... why is this ? should'nt i be getting more on the highway ?

5 speed manual. filled up just two days back from all city driving mostly at 60km/hr and maybe some freeway driving at 100km/hr. its a 50L tank for a 2.4L engine.
42.732L @ $.894 = 535 kms.
this is from my most recent trip. purely highway driving at about 110 or 120km/hr. after filling up.
42.865L @ .924 = 580 kms.
in city driving i mostly have another person with me in the car. the highway trip i had another passenger with me and some luggage. dont know if that makes a difference. i was driving mostly on cruise on the highway. till date on the highway i've never been able to get better than that milage. but i've done better on the city milage. so what gives ?
The last honda civic I had it was an 07 lx 5spd, it got better in town mileage than on the highway, it did an easy 42 in town everytime I checked it and a few times I took it on some road trips of 200 miles and it only did 39.
I think the civic was geared more for in town use, it had a very strong 1st gear and even in 5th it pulled well much like my present daily driver a 08 miata cp, which by the way with a 6 spd gets 37mpg in town.
I aways get good miles per gallon I ususally take t easy driving.
I have a corolla 2009 S , I get an avg of 7L per 100 KM which is 33.6 MPG US I was expecting more than that though, I drive 60% HWY, 40% city
It more than likey an automatic, that your getting less than expected with, I had an 02 Zo6 which easily did 30 on the highway and 18 around town with 3.42 gears, in the meantime I purchased an 08 coupe with the 6 spd auto and a lighter gear ratio, of 2.59 around town, the 08 gets 22 and about 24 on the highway.
I am always short shifting, and kicking the shifter into N down hills and wherever I can with the standard shift cars, I think that is where the extra mpg. comes in.
Fuel consumption is proportional to speed, if you double your speed you quadruple the drag on your car due to air resistance. You will use a lot more fuel on the highway at 120 km/h than 60 km/h in town in top gear. A lot of stop/start driving in town will mean you use more fuel in town than on the highway. Minimal stop/start driving in town will mean you use less fuel in town than on the highway. It's not what you drive, but how you drive!
I just filled my truck today for the first time, I made sure the truck was completly full all the way up the neck, I think that is the only way to make sure you have the same amout of fuel in the truck every time.
Now this is a new truck with just a few hundred miles on it, mostly intown driving on a standard Tacoma 4 cyl 5 speed regular cab.
I drove like I normaly drive nice and easy I got 26.4 MPG, way better than I ever got with any of my chevy trucks the best I ever got out of the chevys was 19.0MPG on a 300 mile trip, and thhey were lucky to see 15 around town.
In cold winter conditions a 13 MPG was normal, I'm very pleased.
I miss the 300 hp and the auto trans but not that much....B Guzz
Yeah and I like that, a few times in the past few weeks, I have doubted myself for buying a standard shift small truck, when I could have bought another silverado.
But none of the past chevy trucks includeing an 00 S-10 Zr-2 v-6, an 04 colorado 5 cyl, and 2 silverados one with a 5.3 and the other a 4.8 both 300 hp, the best mileage out of all of them was hardly 18 on a good day, with the same driving habits.
I'm very pleased, and just thinking I might actully get some of my money back when I get a new truck in a year or two.
