What Thermostat Temp?

My 99 Solara 2.2 needs a new thermostat. I think it has a 170 now, the engine is only getting up to about 165 on the Scan Gauge. Auto Zone has a 170, a 180 or a 190. Which one would be the best for me? I am interested in the best fuel economy.

Have you done your homework concerning higher limit thermostats?

First I would figure out at what temp does your fan kick in...because if you get one too high for the temp, the light will just stay on, negating any benefits of the higher temp.

Next main concern is that you know your margin of error built in from the factory is smaller so you'll more easily over heat if you aren't carefull.

Short read to cover your bases: http://www.gassavers.org/showthread....ght=thermostat

I say buy based on the temp that kicks your fans on and for that you'll need to search ( thermostat and the water temp kicking in the fan may not correspond either).
