If you fill your gas to the top of the filler neck (where you put the gas in) you risk flooding your charcoal canister with gas ($365CDN +labor +tax) via the breather tube.

Definitely will flood the charcoal can if you fill the neck up. I use the same pump at the same station as often as possible and let it turn off at the first click. Hand calc becomes more accurate with each fill up.

I use ecomodder.com to track my fuel usage. The user garage uses a fuel log to track down lifetime and 90 day mpg average. It's pretty accurate and addictive.

I used to calculate it manually, wish I had kept old receipts of running mileage for longer.

I just started recently on spritmonitor. Nice and no frills, just the way I like it.

Good way to tell if your car is drinking up more fuel, or if you have low air pressure in your tires. It makes a noticeable difference.
I do the same thing handy little gadgets those trip meters are great minds....

I use a free app called "Gas Cubby" on my iPod Touch. It allows me to enter the pertinent information such as odometer reading, gallons, price/gallon, and/or total cost. (It will calculate the other one, if you give it two of those variables). You also have to enter if it's a total or partial fill. I can also enter any service I do to it, and it iwll remind me to change my oil every XXX miles (whatever I tell it, I think).

It then calculates my last tank's mileage. If i tip it to the side, it shows a graph of my fuel mileage. Slide that to the left, and I get a table of overall mileage, max, min, average cost/gallon, cost/mile to run the car (9 cents), etc.

It's a free app, I think.
