Then the Chinese companies come out and say that they are commited to safetfy and that their cars meet all laws mandated in the countries they are sold.

Combine this and all the bad press from the poision food, faulty tires and what not, it comes down to the world not taking China seriously.

You have many valid points and I agree with most. In the end, it usually comes down to economics - what can a person afford. That's how the Korean mfgs. got their foot in the door. Built cheap crap that was more affordable and in time, ended up producing cars that have a higher or as high of a satisfaction rating as most Japanese mfgs.

China would be forced to eventually come up to the same std. In the beginning, they could get away with the "cheap crap" approach as the price of cars has gotten ridiculous.
