82 Celica Supra

There's an '82 Celica Supra in my area going for around $700. All I have right now is an 88 tercel and I'm thinking about getting the supra to add a little extra spice (but this is probably just a passing phase ). How are they in terms of reliability? Since it's just a toyota inline 6 with no turbo I'm assuming the engine's pretty reliable, is this true? I'm in CA, so I'm also a little nervous about smog, does anyone know how they fare in that regard?

Does this just seem like a bad idea?

Basically your standard checklist when buying any used car. If it looks to be worth the price (haggle if necessary), I don't think you can go wrong.
