supra research

hey everyone, well i dont have a supra..but i'm considering buying one so i'm trying to do some research on them and decide what would suit me best. I'd like to get a twin turbo supra, but someone was telling me it might actually be cheaper if I bought an N/A supra and bought an engine swap for it (putting the twin turbo engine in) does anyone know about how much it would cost to do that? (including the cost of the actual engine) thanks and the help is appreciated!

Engine swap is stupid expensive bro. You could buy an N/A and turbo that for less than the cost of a TT, but if you plan on going all out crazy 700whp then a TT is better.

www.suprastore.com is a good one for a lil info, check the Supra forum too.

I agree with Deep that an engine swap will cost plenty, but a better option would be to just turbo the NA motor. This has been done lots by the guys at suprastore and powerhouse racing.

actually, depending on your final goal, they prefer the na engine to turbo, as it has less "slow-me-down things to worry about and do work arounds. the earlier supras have less counter-productive measures as well. OBDII is an example of a module which seems to be anti-speed.

you will save huge on insurance by registering a na vin number.

OBDII, or on-board-diagnostics, for example, monitor boost, and if it gets too high, the ecu shuts down the engine by reducing fuel, spark, timing, etc..... so, in adition to adding a boost controller, you also have to get around the safety controls and countermeasures the car has built into it.

Traction control is another. when the ecu finds you are losing traction, it reduces, fuel, spark, timing, whatever it has to to slow you down, when all you wanna do is go faster.

There are many things like this that have to be wreckoned with. i hope this gives you an idea of what i was refering to.

if you are taling about traction control in a 2jz supra, it has a second throttle butterfly infront of the main one that starts to close when wheel spin is detected, it's even more annoying than a fuel cut......
