7m-gte head mod?

Hey. I've been following the thread on Supraforum about boring 3 small holes in the head near piston #6 on the 7m-gte. It seems that the gaskets and the blocks have the holes but not the head. I can't find a water circulation diagram except for the generic hose/water pump diagrams in the shop manuals.I like some opinions about this. Which cylinder general blows? Would this lower the tempreture in the head or do people have alot of holes in their head?

So if ur talking about water injection which i assume u are, then what we did on an 85' Merkur XR4Ti was we taped into the intake manifold right after the throttle body. That ensures a flow of water/menthenol mixture throughout all the pistons and inturn lowering the head temp and cleaning the engine from the inside out. Hope this helps you im looking to do the same on my 87' Supra turbo.

nope. Not water injection. Simply opening up a passage into the head near #6 that isn't there in the casting. I'll see if I can find the url that I saw it on.

IMO, Toyota nor Yamaha (who designed the head) would not leave closed a passage that could so easily be opened if there was not a flow concern.

This is actually not a new thread, in fact, it came up on the old SOGI list perhaps 5-6 years back, and it was determined by looking at a flow diagram that there was a reason not to open it up. As I can't find the article, I didn't bring this up over at supraforums...besides which, most people there can't read, or have egos that tell them whatever they said first is right, even if it came from their asses, so an article wouldn't have helped anyhow.

As to cooling, if you're not overheating now, why worry about it? Normal heat doesn't kill headgaskets...improper torque specs or detonation do.

He's not, he's talking about water(coolant) flow through the block. I think at this point, there's no real evidence to show one way or another what effect that has. It may cool it better, but who knows. I think time will tell.

This is what he's talking about:
