It eliminates the EGR in your car. I don't think you can get away with it in Cali. The EGR is part of the emissions equipment. It takes exhaust gas and pipes it back into the intake to help the engine warm up faster. Once the engine is warm it closes and everything runs normal. It is there to reduce cold start emissions.

Like everyone else said, it's really only a small thing and doesn't affect much. I just use the JDM Toyota block off plates on my motor (Japan's regulations on emissions don't include the EGR). So, if you get a JDM Motor it'll 99% of the time have the EGR blocked off from the factory. I got one and just carried these block offs over to every 7M I've gotten.

So as not to 'confuse' folks......
The above statement 'of EGR purpose' is inaccurate.

It actually does NOT operate when the engine is cold (open-loop). It's function is to lower combustion temperatures during 'load' conditions, to lower the Nitrious Oxides formed in the 'high-heat' condition.

It will come in gradually during acceleration, and will not come on at WOT.

For non-street (no licensing) use in Calif, you can remove the EGR system. It will not cause harm to the engine, nor increase power.
