I want to know what kind of mods are best in the MK3 world. I mean really in depth stuff. There are lots of sites for Mk4...I need Mk3. What are weak spots internally(don't bother warning me about the headgasket), how about airflow...etc,etc. Who has the most powerful MK3...what did you/they do??
Thanks a lot, Rob
Is he the guy with the T66??? that sounds like a killer setup. I imagine that he has roasted many a vette with that. What does the car need to achieve this kind of power??
To get over 500hp from the 7m-gte you might need some of the following:
-Lexus V8 AFM - the mk3 uses a karmenn vortex type afm they're shit
-550cc injectors
-Forgies if not factory fitted.
-aftermarket ecu or piggy-back computer.
Reg-reimer has got 500-odd ponies on the stock ECU and stock internals. He's using the lexus AFM, 550s, FMIC and a piggyback comp. -no forgies.
HOWEVER his 7m is mounted in a lighter car, therefore he can run more boost without detonation.
there are many mk3 powerhouses out there. try searching the web, or various links you have found for names like:
larry anderson, lance wolken, vinnt ten, dave moskowitz, peter howard, howard hutchinson, stan vitek, will neely, scott mech, geoff mohler, and reg reimer just to name a few. sign up to supra.com email list, or some of the other big supra boards. toyota nation is all toyotas in general, so you won't find any of those big guns hangning around much.
the guys i mentioned all have made big horsepower using the 7m-gte, but all have gone different routes. Some buy only hks, some only greddy, some mix and match, and some make their own shit up as they go. you wanna know what they know, you should seek them out and talk to them. they route you take depends on you ultimate goal, money in bank, and skills set you have.
weekness of the 7m-gte? other than the headgasket, it is a rock solid engine. the problem is fixing it right the first time through. the 7m-gte, like any other motor will break fast as you increase hp desired. the more ponies you pump through it, the quicker it will break. the motor will take 12psi and 300-rwhp for ever and will not break. anything higher than that, and you are shortening the life of the engine.
