MK3 N/A cams better for turbo motor?

A friend of mine told me N/A cams will yeild more hp/tq than turbo cams on an MK3 Supra.

Is this true? I don't know the duration or lift on both cams but I'm sure someone here knows and can shed some info or experience.

I haven't heard that one. NA and turbo motors have different duration and overlap needs. I'm not really sure where he came up with that one.

Okay . I was out googling and found duration specs.

7MGTE : 236 dur. in/ex

7MGE : 244 dur. in/ex

If these #'s are true. Then with more duration more power can be had.
Maybe he was right.
This would be a cheap upgrade to get 20whp.

Yes the NA cam has more duration to provide more overlap. A turbo motor runs better with less overlap. I guess you could go with some adj cam gears to dial some of it out, but that's only 3 deg or so. You are increasing dur by 8 deg. I guess you can try it.

The NA cams have been dynoed to produce more power on already modified cars. That said, fairly modded cars. Without mods, the gain is not consistently measurable, and really not worth the time. As I remember, the exhaust cam swap is the only one that produces gains. Intake does nothing.
